      Basic Discription of Matsubayashi Ryu

 

The main attribute of Matsubayashi-ryu is in its utilization of  natural motions as well as stances , with no sense of awkwardness, and employment of  a natural respiration technique. Therefore, practitioners of Matsubayashi Ryu karate places significant importance on training the body in a natural way, rapid and uneven tempo motions.   Another distinction that identifies the uniques of Matsubayashi Ryu is the chambering position with the fist.  The fist are chambered high as opposed to below the belt.

 

In Matsubayashi-ryu, the kata are regarded as being creative, and an enbu demonstration emphasizes the harmony of speed, power and weight.   Matsubayashi Ryu has 18 katas in its curriculum.   Despite having the shortest amount  kata than most style of karate.   Nagamine Sensei  strongly believed that it would take roughly three  years to perfect each kata to its highest level of mastery.   Explosive movement , dynamic strength , intense display of power , and precise execution of  kihon waza (basic techniques)  are the by-product of training in accordance to Shoshin Nagamine Sensei's philosophy.
